Course description -  this course shows students how to:


·         set financial goals
·         build financial net worth
·         budget your money
·         understand the difference between good and bad uses of credit (debt)
·         save for your retirement using a qualified retirement account (IRAs and 401Ks)
·         contribute to a health savings account (HSA),
·         finance and purchase a big-ticket item like a home or a car 
·         get a better understanding of the tax system in the U.S. and in the State of CT
·         read and understand an employee pay stub
·         be aware of potential financial challenges for couples when it comes to love and money in relationships

The course entails several practical simulation exercises using the web and Excel including: tracking personal cash flows, check writing and keeping your checking account registry up to date, as well as calculating mortgage and car financing costs.
